For beginner skiers it s really just about connecting your boot to the ski and making sure it comes off in a crash. Instead of fins on the binding that hold the boot in place tech bindings use metal pins that connect directly to steel inserts in the boot. Tech bindings were originally designed for ski touring and ski mountaineering using narrow skis and soft ski mountaineering boots of the 1980s. This means you won t have to replace your boots.

The more sophisticated tech bindings have a greater stack height. Cast boot conversion allows you to keep rocking the alpine boots you know and love while adding tech compatibility for super efficient touring. The lightest bindings have the lowest stack heights.
